As a highly integrated psychological approach, CFT utilises a variety of powerful interventions in therapy aimed at helping people to engage with and relieve their distress and suffering. These interventions have overlaps with many other therapeutic traditions, but a key focus in CFT is how these can be done by first engaging in the compassionate mind/self and using this as a way to relate to oneself.
Once the compassionate mind has been developed, we can then start finding different ways to put it to work. This can involve bringing compassion to the way we think, to our emotions, to our tricky brains and bodies.
At Balanced Minds, we’re keen to support you in learning more about CFT, but also in benefiting from this approach, with the help of a variety of different Compassion Focused Therapy Worksheets. These are designed to be a useful guide to engaging in common CFT Interventions
Take a look at a few key compassion focused therapy worksheets below. These are built around three core CFT interventions – letter writing, thought records and multiple self. We’ll going to add to these in the coming months, but get in contact if you’d like to see specific worksheets!

If you find any of these Compassion Focused Therapy Worksheets difficult, please try not to worry. Like with many things in life – learning a new skill (like a language, sport or musical instrument), it can take a while for us to become familiar and comfortable with them. Practice is key here, but also holding wisdom in recognising that this is a process.
Further CFT Resources
If you’d like to have more detailed guides to some of these practices, you can find them in a variety of our self-help guides and books. We’ve also got various other CFT resources that you might be interested in, along with options for supervision and further training in this approach.
All of these scripts, interventions and resources are adapted from the wonderful work of Prof Paul Gilbert
