Dr Melissa Albany

Clinical Psychologist & Associate

Melissa is a Clinical Psychologist and completed her training at the University of Plymouth as a mature age student. She has worked for six years in the NHS in Adult mental health services specialising in working with people who have experienced complex trauma and interpersonal difficulties. She has a developing interest in dissociation. She is now branching out into private practice. Melissa utilises an integrative approach with an emphasis on a compassion-focussed therapeutic approach to a broad range of difficulties. She is trained in EMDR which is used in trauma processing and has an interest in relational therapies drawing on cognitive, systemic and attachment models of understanding. She also has an interest in feminist and ecological theory and how this can influence psychological health focussing on our connection to our environment and others.

Previously she has worked in the criminal justice system in addictions and has worked with groups addressing domestic violence. Melissa was supervised by a leading researcher and practitioner in attachment approaches. Melissa has also worked in the media industry in a variety of roles.

Melissa employs a therapeutic approach which is aimed at fostering a warm and empathic relationship with clients.
