Dr Rowan Reiss
Clinical Psychologist & Associate
Dr Rowan Reiss is a clinical psychologist and has worked in the NHS for 17 years. She has extensive experience of working with adults, young adults and adolescents who are affected by depression and anxiety, as well as difficulties including OCD, self-harm, suicidality, psychosis, PTSD and complex trauma resulting in intense and overwhelming emotions.
She gained her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of East London, where there is an emphasis on understanding the contextual factors in the development of a person’s distress – from family, to work, to political and societal influences. She is passionate about supporting people to process their experiences within an understanding of how their context has shaped their worldview, their sense of self and their difficulties.
Dr Rowan Reiss is trained in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), in narrative and systemic approaches and in trauma-informed approaches. In her NHS role she has worked to develop and integrate Compassion Focused Therapy approaches, including group-based work, within the services provided. As advocated within both Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) approaches, Rowan maintains her own daily mindfulness practice.
As a qualified music therapist Rowan is also interested in the non-verbal elements of communication and is committed to enabling people to access therapy in an attuned way, at a pace they are comfortable with. She is interested in the notion of ‘readiness’ for therapy and focused her doctoral research in this area.
Rowan integrates Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) into her professional practice, supporting her patients to understand their difficulties from a non-judgemental perspective, externalising and processing issues that have come into their lives. Rowan offers a safe, non-judgemental space to support people to make sense of their experiences and their difficulties.
