CFT & Acting Workshop

We are delighted to be able to offer a workshop opportunity to learn how acting techniques can be integrated into compassion focused and other forms of therapy. There is growing evidence that acting techniques can change the sense of self and give people new opportunities of self-discovery and development. Central to CFT is cultivating the compassionate self, which has always used acting techniques. So here’s your chance to deepen your knowledge and experience under the expert guidance of Gareth Kennerley (a professional actor and trainer) and facilitated by Korina Ioannou (a Clinical Psychologist and CFT practitioner). Previous participants have found this workshop extremely beneficial enlightening and offered new ways of working with developing the compassionate self

Workshop Outline:
Day 1 entails use of physicality, mirroring and embodiment exercises to work on character building, and explore different emotional positions. We will consider how these map onto the three emotion regulation systems of threat drive and contentment/ soothing.

Day 2 involves delving deeper into character creation, based on individual and group work. This will include guided improvisation, emotional memory exercises, and embodiment. Through this practice and exploration we will work towards creating and embodying our own compassionate self.

Who this Workshop is for:
It is desirable that attendees have completed some introductory CFT training. As this is an experiential workshop, we expect that you will be able to bring an open-mind to explore and experiment with different ‘parts’ of you, in a safe and respectful environment. A willingness to play and have fun is an absolute requirement!
